Anton Schnack (1892 – 1973)
The German writer, journalist and editor Anton Schnack was one of the leading German War Poets from World War One. He was born in Bavaria as a son of a station commander of the gendarmerie. Schnack served in the German army during the First World War and began publishing poems on the subject from 1917 onwards. He published his most significant collection of war poetry, Tier rang gewaltig mit Tier (“Beast strove mightily with beast”), in 1920.
Schnack’s lust- and remorseful poem Handgranatenwerfer is featured on my album Krieg.
